February Spotlight

Ashley Hill has been in the ward for 5 years in April. She and her husband, Chris, have 2 boys: Josh (18) and Connor (14). Ashley was born in the California Bay Area while her dad was in law school but her family soon moved back to Utah. For the most part, she has lived in Sandy since. She graduated from Skyline High, went to cosmetology school the next year and did hair for seven years until she finished nursing school at the U of U. Ashley currently works full-time as a RN at the University Hospital (graveyard shift on a surgical and transplant floor). Of course she also has ongoing and never ending work inside the home, (including her least favorite chore, toilets!) Her hobbies include reading (most anything), gardening and listening to talk radio. She also enjoys hiking and driving in the mountains. Her favorite type of music is Jack Johnson, Dave Mathews Band, and anything relaxing and classical. Mexican food is Ashley’s favorite. Her dream vacation would be a tour of Europe. She would start with Italy, because it's beautiful and because she’s studied it for so long. Then she would move on to England, because her ancestors came from there. Ashley would actually love to be stranded on a deserted island. In fact, when asked what she would need on a deserted island, she replied, “Nothing, sounds like heaven on earth.” She did say that if she wanted to survive, she would take her husband, who is a real handy, “Bear Grylls. He'd have me fed, hydrated, clothed and sheltered in no time. And he never leaves home without a pocket knife.” One silly thing about Ashley (according to her), is that she has braces (she’s doing it along with her son). She says that it’s embarrassing when the tech calls her name expecting a young girl and she stands up. Her favorite scripture is James 1:5: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." She says it's such an inspiration to know that even Joseph Smith felt like he didn't know what to do and needed Heavenly Father’s help, especially when she feels like she lacks wisdom every day (don’t we all!?).
