Thank you to our Relief Society presidency for a wonderful dinner to celebrate the 170 years of Relief Society. Following, are a few photos of the decorations and some brief explanations about the evening's activities. The names of RS Siters are clipped on the lines here, and the saying with the hen is, "Here's something to crow about...Extraordinary Chicks!"

A few of the sisters at the dinner....

A close up of one of the centerpieces. Each table had a display of items from the past. Many of them were familiar, especially to the older ladies.
There was a photo and some decor concerning every one of the former General RS Presidents from Emma Smith, right up to our present President, Julie Beck.
Jeanette told us a little bit about each of the former General Relief Society presidents. This was very interesting information about how each of them served faithfully, fullfilling their responsibilities to the best of their ability, sometimes under very trying circumstances. We marveled at the length of time some were in this demanding calling, and we chuckled a bit about an early sister, who made a wash for wounds, using iodine, and live toads that were boiled, along with some other interesting ingredients. Each one, labored with the knowledge and talents, and recources that she had at the time. Times have changed, but we sisters, are capable of extraordinary things as well. Everyone was asked to bring something to display, or tell about something she had done that was extraordinary. These were all posted up on the boards around the cultural hall, and Renee, took them down one at a time, read them, and we guessed who it was. This was not only a LOT of fun, but we learned how talented and truely extraordinary and accomplished the sisters in our ward are!

Every sister received a little rock, that was sprouting a paper flower. All of the flowers were made from lesson book pages....but all were different, and of course all of the rocks were different , just like each of us. We are all individuals, different in appearance and abilities and talents, but each of us are capable of Extraordinary things. This little flower is symbolic because it represents rising above sometimes difficult circumstances to bloom, wherever we are. We have all seen flowers blooming in a crevice of solid rock. Wherever life finds each of us, we can rise up and bloom, contributing to the beauty of the world, making it a better place.
